This is how you get to Squitty Bay Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast:
Take the new island highway north from Nanaimo. Take the exit for Parksville to the old island highway. After passing through the town of Parksville, look for the Lasqueti Island passenger ferry sign on the right. The marina the ferry launches from is called French Creek Marina, and it lies between Parksville and Qualicum. If you find yourself in Qualicum, you have gone too far north.
The Lasqueti Island ferry leaves from the last dock in French Creek. If you are parking a car, be sure to purchase a parking ticket from the machine or from the warfinger in French Creek. They will tell you where to park. Parking is approximately $5.00 a night. During the summer and weekends, it is a good idea to arrive at least one hour in advance and to get a boarding pass if they have been put out.
The ferry that crosses the Georgia Strait to Lasqueti Island is a passenger ferry only. You can also transport your own bike, kayak or canoe on the ferry. If you bring your own transportation, the distance from the ferry dock to Squitty Bay Oceanfront Bed and Breakfast is approx. an hour and a half bike ride down a winding and hilly country road or a five-hour paddle by kayak through an unspoiled archipelago of islands. The beautiful trip by bicycle or by kayak is well worth the trek.
You will be required to supply your own food for lunches and suppers, so plan ahead. Please bring a flashlight.
When making your plans, also keep in mind there are no ferries on Tuesdays, and service on Wednesdays run only in July and August.
